How to Illustrate a Book is a 3 week, 6 class course designed to guide students through the process of creating a picture book.
Classes begin with writing a short story (or using a prepared fairy tale) and learning how to format it into a book. Character design, world building, page composition, color schemes, and visual communication cues are topics covered throughout the course. Students will build real artistic skills through fun, engaging lessons that encourage creativity, observation, and problem-solving.
The classes are designed for both beginning and experienced artists who love to imagine, draw, and tell stories. Classes for younger ages have a greater focus on drawing and creativity while older aged classes are enhanced with practical information about publishing, and an introduction to careers in the children's book industry.
Class sizes are intentionally kept small so every student receives personal instruction, encouragement, and plenty of one-on-one feedback.
Whether they already love drawing or are just beginning, students will leave each class with new skills, original artwork, and greater confidence in their creativity.
